Parallax is a parasitic entity from the DC universe, embodying fear. It is a yellow, insect-like being that seeks to possess hosts and spread terror. In the Green Lantern Corps mythos, Parallax was long imprisoned within the Central Power Battery on Oa, unknowingly influencing the actions and emotions of Green Lanterns.
Parallax's first appearance in comics (as the entity) was in *Green Lantern* vol. 3 #46 (January 1994), although its influence had been hinted at prior. It played a significant role in the "Emerald Twilight" storyline, where it corrupted Hal Jordan, leading to Jordan's transformation into a villainous version of Parallax.
As Parallax, Hal Jordan decimated the Green Lantern Corps, seeking to rewrite history and prevent the destruction of his home city, Coast City. The entity was eventually revealed to be an ancient being that was the emotional embodiment of fear, not simply a manifestation of Hal Jordan's grief and trauma.
